Before you shut me down, hear me out first. As trends come and go, any social media platform is bound to die. Remember the OG “Friendster” and “Myspace” that took the world by storm way back 2002-2005? Over the past years, the continuous advancement of technology produces steadfast social media platforms to which are both used for personal and business reasons. Social media activities may include sharing photos, blogging, gaming, creating social networks, and much more. Fast forward to today, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok took over and the earlier founded social media platforms passed on.
We have been living in a fast paced society, but the sudden strike of the current COVID-19 pandemic, global markets are greatly affected. Businesses end up having to explore innovative solutions to overcome the effects of the unprecedented pandemic crisis. Imagine tirelessly building your business on social media platforms and receiving a notice one day that they are shutting down. Imagine all the hard work you’ve invested on your business and the platform you are using only to find out that the platform is locking you out of their system for unknowingly violating one of their new rules. Was it even worth it?
👉🏻 Algorithm changes
Building your business on social media platforms is like building your business on shifting sands. A website is a solid framework you own to which you can continuously build on. At any point, the social media platform you’re using could change it’s algorithm, making it nearly impossible for your community to see your content (unless you want to spend tons of money on ads). With the recent chaos of FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, and other related social media platforms causing a big problem for being down in which users became greatly affected especially those businesses who rely on these platforms, think of having a website as a foundation. It’s the one thing you can control, build, improve and continuously lead your community to.
👉🏻 You own it
You don’t own any of the social media platforms, but you do own your website. Facebook or Instagram could shut down your account without warning. You need a website because it’s yours. Ask yourself what difference might there be if you have YOUR OWN WEBSITE. Of course, the main thing about having your own is no one can take it away from you.
👉🏻 You control the experience
You have 100% control over how your website looks and what the user experience is like. Show off your personality and vibe through your website. Give your ideal clients an idea of what it looks like to work with you, who you are and what you stand for without them having to pay or buy something from you. Create the first hand experience you would rather have your customers enjoy without having to worry of unexpected incidents like the recent social media outage.
👉🏻 Credibility
Your website is your digital storefront. In this day and age where 80% of the population owns a mobile device or computer relies on these technologies to look for a product or service. If a business doesn’t have a website, people would likely go somewhere else that has one. Your website is your home where people can expect to find your contact info, reviews, a list of products, pricing, and more resources. In addition, your website is the reflection of you and your business which greatly contributes to giving the client the overview of your products and other important information with convenience. A standard social media page cannot provide a concise and strategic flow of information that can convert a visitor to an actual customer.
Changes in social media algorithms remain constant but cannot gain you customers which is why YOU NEED to OWN YOUR WEBSITE. Imagine the possibilities of creating content, offers and income streams without the restrictions of another party. Bring a different level of experience for your customers and reach a new number of potential customers.
